In It feels like falling, Sophie de Vos explores both silence and existence, drawing on the philosophical question: If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, did it actually make a sound?
The images show fragile flowers, enclosed and thus preserved by ice. By touching and cherishing them, you simultaneously undo the preservation, altering or damaging them in the process.
This series references what trauma specialists call ‘frozen thoughts’: memories that remain inaccessible, suspended in silence. Their frozen quality makes them difficult to verbalize, allowing the trauma to persist quietly, beneath the surface.
