In essence, Sophie de Vos’ work revolves around the concept of human nature and the questions surrounding it. Subjects like transience, decay, loss and the passing of time play an important role in her practice. For human beings, these subjects are often emotionally charged, while in nature they are most common. Sophie created a new series of photographic images that asks questions about nature, beauty and decay, treating them as similar and complementary, rather than as opposites. Her works tell stories through image and language by means of her attributed titles. Meanwhile, the carefully determined composition, colours and details form wonderful images.

“Living creatures sometimes have the tendency to swim against the current or resist the flow. These flowers just keep floating though, move when the stream wants them to. Every now and then they get stuck against the riverbank, but sooner or later - when the time is right - they just float on.”
