Radiant Touch at Art23 in Guangzhou
Until the 7th of October Art23 Contemporary Art Gallery in Guangzhou (China) presents Radiant Touch. The exhibition brings together the works of two artists who explore the radiant in urban city and daily routine, experimenting unexpected techniques and practices; Lisette Schumacher and Saïd Kinos. One of them is fascinated by daily conversation and the other has an interest in modernistic architecture, creating a pleasing but provocative atmosphere herein.
Saïd Kinos works expresses a fascination for the way people communicate with each other. Communication through language, symbols and (social) media is one of the main sources of inspiration for his work. Saïd developed a strong passion for typography and other visual forms of communication. His work is recognizable through high contrast, and the use of distorted typography. Because of this, a certain level of visual overkill is brought to the viewer. In this overkill Saïd finds a metaphor for the amount of information we have to process on a daily basis.
Lisette Schumacher's practice revolves around painting. Experimenting with different unexpected tools she works methodically, operating the silkscreen technique as painting manner. In her paintings form, allocation and light operation are the points of interest. Herewith the focus lies on modernistic architecture. She watches how the use of the building has determined its shape and linked to it the layout and dimensioning. Meanwhile, she observes how the light operation has been optimized for the user and what stands out herein.
With this vivid and appealing exhibition, ART23 greets all the wide and in-depth discussion with the audience. They will continually serve as a laboratory for young artists to explore the dialogue between their work, time and space.
