The Assemblage No. 2

The Assemblage will be continued. After a year full of new projects, exhibitions and developments the artists connected to the gallery show a glimpse into their latest concepts and methods. Each artist will show one or more recent artworks, which will give an overview of what the gallery represents.
Sophie de Vos created a new series named I Will Blossom. With her recognizable dark backgrounds Sophie shows an esthetic image in which our perception of transience and beauty is questioned.
Lisette Schumacher will present several works from her Sainte Marie de La Tourette series. These paintings are named after a building with the same name, designed by Le Corbusier. A Dominican Order priory, located on a hillside near Lyon, completed in 1961.
Said Kinos’ work expresses a fascination for the way people communicate with each other. Communication through language, symbols and (social) media is one of the main sources of inspiration for his work. His work is recognizable through high contrast, often black and white, and the use of distorted typography. Because of this, a certain level of visual overkill is brought to the viewer.
Jan Kuhlemeier has been working for the last few months on his series Chroma. In these works Jan uses the translucency of the layers to research specific hue’s between colours. In his paintings he tries to catch moments and the colours with these moments that he experiences resulting in a painting and it could be a moment when the clouds turn pink, the sky turns purple or the bright orange sun impinges with the deep blue ocean.
Daniel van Dijck’s pieces play with the reinterpretation of everyday objects and their role within our daily practices, resulting in hand-made, unique works that offer a tactile and aesthetic experience.
Philine van den Hul grew in her artistic practice from installations and paintings to photography. Her photographic works show vibrant colours, unusual garments and angles, and you have an imagery that is hard to grasp, complex and visually challenging. In her work Philine uses all materials and imagery are re-used, vintage, analog yet sophisticated.
Donald Schenkel continuous his investigation into the materiality of colours: by exploring new mixtures of paint he unites the material characteristics of the pigments with the colours they bring forth. Leading in his current artistic developments is a vibrating, bright and highly transparent orange pigment that is translated into a wide range of colour transitions: as subtle, deep and varied as his previous works in blue.
We hope to welcome you at the opening on the 13th of June from 19:30 till 21:30. On 20:00 we’ll officially open the exhibition and the latest project by Saïd Kinos, Traces. Traces can be found in the public area of the neighborhood. After the opening, the exhibition will be on show until the 3rd of August. The gallery is open from Wednesday until Friday from 12:00 till 18:00, Saturday from 12:00 till 17:00 and by appointment. After the exhibition the gallery will be closed until the 31st of August.
