freerk wilbers

Freerk creates kinetic sculptures that can be applied in and to different environments and spaces. Often, his work is site specific; specifically designed to interact with the conditions of the space in question. His work is part of international private-, as well as large corporate collections enabling more viewers to view his work.

More about the artist

Freerk Wilbers creates kinetic artworks and light installations from experimental research into materials, movement and mechanics. In his work, he is always looking for rhythms; in image, sound, time and space. This applies to the physical sculpture, as well as its projections of light into its environment. A sense of harmony is reached when the two intersect. Endlessly variable, never the same. This concept of unpredictable repetition forms an important element in his practice. Just like the idea of a circular movement; there is no beginning or ending to the ways in which the installations move. In this, Freerk finds a reference to nature that he often returns to. Days, seasons, tides.. they repeat themselves, but never in exactly the same way.

His background in (mechanical) engineering informs Freerkā€™s methods and provides him with the necessary tools to bring his artistic vision to life. Driven by curiosity and the desire to explore, he continues to innovate. Yet, the dynamics between the moving parts are not programmed or controlled. His works share an element of renewal and variability that automatically results from the interactions between the laws of physics that operate on all parts.
