Saïd Kinos at CODA Museum!
Very soon, Saïd Kinos will be opening his very own solo exhibition at Coda Museum in Apeldoorn! His show “In harmony – form, colour and language” will open on April 2!
In the past few months SaÏd has worked extremely hard on the preparation for his new show, creating new works that, together, form a comprehensive whole. The works on view will include paintings, sculptures, a large installation and custom designed seating elements to view his work peacefully. In addition, he has created a monumental mural with a series of works on paper specifically for this exhibition. This series is inspired by the typography and use of colour of historical exhibition posters, postcards and a city map of Apeldoorn from the CODA archive and collection. You do not want to miss out on this!
The show is on view until June 18.
Over the years, Saïd Kinos developed a fascination for typography and various forms of visual communication. He equates the visual experience with language with the functional aspect and is a strong advocate for 'post-typography' as an art movement in which language is used to discover shapes and colours.
Depending on their design, letters usually consist of round and straight shapes and thick and thin lines; once arranged in the correct order, they form words, phrases and sentences that we can read and understand. In other words: the function of letters and language. Visual artist Saïd Kinos is fascinated by the form and function of language and the way people communicate. According to him, typography is more than ever a means of attracting attention, while it only conveys a fraction of the message. He draws his letters in pencil on squared paper and then projects his composition onto the canvas. Words and sentences are built up and broken down, until they are legible and an exciting division of the surface is created that provides a graphic, colourful visual spectacle. He aims to show a mechanical-like aesthetic, with enough room for human ‘imperfections’.
